History of Maritimepattu
Maritimepattu Division occupies the Eastern part of main land of Northern Province. It cover land area (including forest area, excluding large inland water) of approximately 728.6sq Kilometers. This Division is 28.9% of the District total area.This Division Divided into -46 Grama Niladhari and 219 Villages.
The main boundaries of this DS division are North – Puthukudiyiruppu DS division,South – Trincomalee district, West – Oddusuddan Ds division and Eastern boundary is Marine coastal line (sea).
The physical feature of Maritimepattu A.G.A Division is flat land. This Division has 70 Km costal belt and four lagoons big Kokkulai, Nayaru, Nanthikadal, Maththalan with high potential prawn culture. The evaluation varies from sea level to 36.5 meters.Major soil group’s of area reddish brown earth which is suitable for cultivation.

Major portion of the population is engaged in agriculture sector which includes fishing and livestock, other occupation are industrial activities, employment in public sector and private organization.The economy of this DS division mainly depends on agriculture and fishing.
